Greater Carrizozo Region
Situated near the northern end of the Tularosa Basin, the Sacramento Mountains, including Sierra Blanca and Carrizo Peak, form a dramatic backdrop to Carrizozo and provide recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
At the intersection of U.S. Highways 380 and 54, Carrizozo offers excellent highway connections in all directions. The Union Pacific rail line provides efficient rail connections to southern routes in El Paso, Texas, and central routes in Santa Rosa, New Mexico.
The modern municipal airport rounds out the physical connections to the rest of the world while excellent telecommunications capabilities assure potential businesses that living and working in a quiet rural setting will not limit access to world-wide markets.
Quality of Life
The Carrizozo area has a long history of ranching and railroads and these traditions continue to this day. It is a peaceful, friendly, culturally diverse community located in a ranching area with mountain vistas and scenic views of 100 miles.
The general characteristics of the area are low population density, abundance of reasonably priced real estate, adequate water, clean air, mild winters and summers, numerous outdoor activities, historical attractions, proximity to national forests and wilderness areas, and excellent medical services available at the local medical/dental clinic operated in conjunction with Lincoln County Medical Center.
Nearby is the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts, Home of Smokey Bear, Home of Billy The Kid, along with the Historic Lincoln Museum and the Hubbard Museum of the American West, both affiliated with the Smithsonian. Also nearby are the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino, the Inn Of The Mountain Gods Resort and Casino, along with six private and public golf courses including a nine-hole public course in Carrizozo.
