The region has six airports within 150 miles and the Union Pacific Railroad stops as necessary in Carrizozo, which is the county seat of Lincoln County. The Carrizozo Municipal Airport is located right at the edge of town.
Carrizozo Volunteer Fire Department is one of the major volunteer efforts in the area with two fully equipped fire stations. Local law enforcement consists of the Carrizozo Police Department with two full-time and two part- time officers augmented by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department headquartered in town and the New Mexico State Police. As the County Seat, Carrizozo is the center for county government and courts.
There is an active real estate market with both commercial and residential lots and buildings with stable prices and trends. The Town Of Carrizozo annexed 3,000 acres in 2007 for both residential and commercial development.
Education services include seven municipal school districts in the region and the Ruidoso branch of Eastern New Mexico Univeristy that offers vocational training and associate, bachelor and graduate programs and New Mexico State University in Alamogordo (60 miles).
Local recreational activities are numerous, with opportunities for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, horse riding, horse racing, biking, ATV trails, snowmobiling, archery shoots, Little League baseball, 4-H, FFA, gambling, skiing, snow boarding, rodeo, motocross, bird watching, golf, swimming, and bowling.
