Board Meeting


February 21, 2013

The Carrizozo Works monthly Board Meeting was called to order by Board President, Ray Dean, at 5:33PM, in the Otero Electric Community Room, Carrizozo, NM

Ray was joined by Board Members Yovanne Lucero and James Boswell.  The flu bug has hit Carrizozo hard.  As a result, a number of Board Members and other community representatives were absent.  It was decided that we would continue the meeting and follow the agenda but not conduct any official business.

Guests included, Warren Malkerson, Fran Altieri, Becky and David Martin, and Carrizozo Mayor, Lee Gross.

Approval of Jan. 17th Board Meeting minutes and the Treasurer’s Report were postponed until the Mar17th meeting.


Town of Carrizozo:

Carrizozo Trustee, Yovanne Lucero said work continued on the hiking trail at the Carrizozo Community Park.  Installation of 2 benches for the trail would take place as soon as they arrived.

Carrizozo Chamber of Commerce:

Fran Altieri, Carrizozo Chamber of Commerce President announced several Chamber initiatives.  She invited everyone to year’s first “Hot Coffee, Hot Topic Program, Wed at 7:30Am also at Otero Community Room.  Dr Bill Midkiff and his wife Nora will be the speakers.  Discussion Topic, Water.

Fran reminded everyone that March 1st was the deadline to join or renew memberships, if you wanted listed in the 2013 Chamber Directory.


Ray Dean and Paula Wilson are working on updating the www.carrizozoworks.org website.  Anyone with ideas for the site should contact Ray.

Music in the Parks:

Elaine Bannen,  Music in the Parks Chairman, was unable to join us but sent her report with Ray.  Current MIP balance $1474.64.  Two concerts coming soon, Piatigorsky Foundation, Mezzo-soprano, Katherine Calmuggio will perform March 8th, at the Trinity Methodist Church, with the church hosting a Fish-and-Chips Dinner before the concert.  The concert is free and the dinner $8.

April 18th and 19th, Anne Eisfeller and Valerie Potter, flute will perform twice, once for the Carrizozo Schools and once at the Trinity United Methodist Church.  MIP is looking for additional volunteers to run the Summer Parks Music Program.

Film Liaison:  No report

Library Study Committee:

Book donations continue to pour in.  The committee is still looking for a building to process all the book donations and also a suitable library building or site.

Grants/Resource Ambassador:

Jim Boswell brought us up to date on grant applications in the works.  He also mentioned that we need 8 foot, 4×4 pressure treated posts to mount Little Free Library Buildings (LFL) and additional LFL locations.  Last week the LFL, designed by Sheila Lynch, was erected at her home, 1113 D Avenue.

Carrizozo Heritage Museum:

Andy Jorgensen, another flu causality, requested by email to give his report at the March Meeting.


As stated earlier, due to low attendance no official action was taken.

CWI Board Position:

Yovanne Lucero suggested the email could be used to take a vote on the CWI Board Position, all agreed

Solar Memorial Concept:

Dennis Dunnum and Georgene Inks, presenters of the Solar Memorial Concept were unable to attend and it was agreed to postpone any action to a later date.

Frontier Communities – Legislative Update:

Ray reported that SB185 passed the Senate Finance Committee with a condition that the “Emergency Clause” be stripped which Senator Woods agreed to.

CWI By-Laws:

No action taken

Project 1500:

No action taken


Yovanne suggested that we plan a spring kick-off event, all agreed.

Little Free Library:

No action taken

Resource Activity:

C1500 Campaign:

Ray announced that we were still looking for someone to head the Club 1500 Campaign.

Special Events Coordinator:

No action taken

March Strategic Plan:

Yovanne volunteered to work with Ray on a draft plan.

On a motion by Yovanne Lucero and seconded by Jim Boswell, followed by a unanimous, vote the meeting was adjourned at 6:13PM
