Perhaps it is the isolation and remoteness that attracts creatives to Carrizozo. Or maybe it is the transcendental light that illuminates even the darkest corners of crumbling adobes and cracks in the malpais. Whatever it is, Carrizozo has an inordinate number per capita of working artists, writers, craftspeople, musicians and historians who work at home, show at galleries across the country and who both impact and exemplify the West’s individualism and spirit.
